Outside reading #6

As I neared the end of my book, I came across a quote that can relate to anyone's love life. Kirk is just out to eat with Callie, who he thought had the same feelings for him that he had for her. He was about to find out he was very wrong. "Kirk. I love you. Really. But not that way." (241) Kirk has already spilled his love for Callie and also broke up with Lauren. Callie is struck off guard and does not know what to say. She only liked him as friend, nothing more. This has happened to many people as they grow up. When you are young, you don't quite know what love is, so you can make a fool of yourself by expressing your love for the wrong girl. I know this has happened to me and it is just about the akwardest time in your life. Luckily this was much younger and I now learned from my mistakes not to rush into anything. This book has many connections to my life and i beleive it also connects to any highschool student.

Reading on I came across a quote that reminded me of my childhood. When I was a little kid, whenever raindrops would form on the windows, I would take my finger and draw through them, gathering them into one stream of water. I would do this until all of the water was wiped dry. "She traced a finger through the beaded puddles on the table, drawing long trails of water, blending them." (209) This quote is where Kirk and Callie are talking about making Kirk a stronger person. Callie wanted him to control water so she poured a glass of water into his palm and it all spilled onto the table. She then knew she had a bigger task ahead of her. As she sat and listened to Kirk talk she began to draw through the beads of water. This reminds me of my childhood greatly because I would do the same thing if I saw water beaded up.

As I read on in my book, I stumbled upon a quote that I felt was significant to my life. "There was no way I could read anything into it except that she liked me and was still going to go out with me." (126) This quote it refering to the point where Kirk had just asked Lauren out on a date. He was very nervous as he was on the phone with her. Although he sounded very shy on the phone, lauren still wants to go to a movie with him and have a good time. Now im not saying his relates to my life perfectly, but I will tell you that it connects to one part. If I know a girl wants to go out with me, I would do the same thing as Kirk. I would most likely be nervous before I make the phone call, but once we get into conversation, I would be fine, maby even spit some game. Kirk Tobak is very similar to me because if he wants a lady, he will take the effort to ask her out.

Outside reading post 3

After reading on into my book, i found another quote that relates to my life in a way. When i was young my family was most of the time always home. Every once in a while we will go on a trip to Texas to see my grandparents. When we used to live in Texas also, I remember taking trips to the cold land of Minnesota. All of these trips contained my whole family, but there was one trip i remember most and i did not partake in it. "It was the silence of absence. Yes, she had gone away before, but she never went as far as california" (pg 103). This is what i was feeling like after both my parents had left to go to Australia. The only person stayin with me was my grandma. Eveyone knows how quiet some grandparents can be, this is what it was like. No parents for a whole week and just a grandma to talk to. This was a bad feeling and im sure Kirk was feeling the same thing i was when his mom left fo california. This quote related to my life in one way that sparked my memory, i hope this brewed something up in your head for you to think about also.

Once reading on, Kirk gets a bit older. Being sixteen, he should be able to drive on his own. His mother is not ok with that age so she makes him wait until he is seventeen to get his driver's liscence. This is a problem because lots of his friends can drive and he feels stupid not being able to do the same. Kirk is stuck up in the highschool life and thinks he is too cool for a bike. "I walked pretty much everywhere I needed to go. I was to old to ride a bike"(pg 49). This quote happens as he is walking in the cold, light rain as he walks along Bergen Road into town. This bike can compare to my life multiple ways. First of all, I am in the same situation as him, many of my friends are able to drive and i must rely on them for rides. This is highschool and I will not show up to a party or anywhere for that matter, riding a bike. I would much rather walk or get a ride from a buddy. Another way this relates to me is that he isn't afraid to walk and get wet in the rain. Last summer, me and my buddies have been walking accross parts of edina while the rain was dumping down on us. We didn't care beause we are having a good time, and going somewhere to have a better time, hopefully.

In the begining of my book, Blind sighted, Kirk is only 15 years old. He is going to highschool and is a smart kid, but a very bad student. Kirk seems to get bullied a lot and one day he was getting picked on and his intelligance showed. "It suddenly seemed ridiculous to fight. we both turned away from eachother" (pg 35). This quote is after Kirk and Glen had an argument and just about fought. After staring at eachother, both boys found it plain stupid to fight over nothing. This relates to my life partially. Being a smart kid and average student, i seem to get along with people pretty well. I have been in a good amount of conflicts, but never has it turned into violence. Kirk is a good kid and i know he will continue to make good choices like he has in this sitution.

spontaneous words

one day in the sun
I decided to have some fun
I was just 21
and i got some 151
This tastes so strong
I'm sippin all night long
I found this girl who wore a thong
she said you want to hit this bong?
so i ran to her side
grabbed her bare thighs
and looked in her eyes
said i dont get high
